About me ..

Opps, I bet you hit this link by mistake. But since you’re here, I guess maybe I should tell you a bit about myself and what I hope to do with the I Am Only One blog. A while back, I came across the following quote by Edward Hale (yup, a relative of Nathan Hale)
“I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something; and because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do the something that I can do”
When I first read it I thought, Yeah, that’s just about right. If we all just did the little we can, then together we could change the world. We all have something to contribute yet many of us either don’t have the time, or just don’t try to find the time. Maybe it’s a couple minutes separating the recyclables at home, or maybe it’s a weekend working to stop the war. In reality, it’s not the time that matters, but the action itself. Just imagine how we could change the world if everyone just took a couple minutes a day to do something to help the planet.
So this is the challenge of this blog, to help change the world, if just a little bit. I’ll talk about many things, from stopping the war, to living a simple life. Some of the things I’ve done, others not. As the quote says, I cannot do everything, but maybe what I can’t do, you can. Most will take little time, but others will take time to either master, or just to incorporate it into your life. Remember, you don’t have to do everything, just do that something you can.
What can you expect from this blog?
Green Living, Frugal Living, Ending the War, nature, the beach, food, cleaning, labor and workers rights, a little left leaning politics, gadgets, and whatever I get interested in during the day. The sky is the limit, and I’m open to suggestions.
Ok, about me. I’m in my 40’s, single, and am very available. I’m a union organizer and my job is to work with people every day as they work to change their lives. I make good money, but the IRS has claimed a large part of my check. I’ve been part of the anti-war movement for years and have had an on again off again green lifestyle. And while I’ve lead a pretty simple lifestyle (except for my gadgets) I’ve never really had a frugal lifestyle until now. My job sometimes makes it very hard to stay frugal or green, but with my recent IRS problems, I’ll be working harder to live what I’m calling a “simple green” life. I have a cat named Gator (named so because he likes to munch on my arms and legs) and while I was raised in Florida (I love the beach) I’m living in Milwaukee, WI.
There will be many challenges over the next few years, and I invite you to join me as I learn how to live a simple green lifestyle, and pass what I learn on to you. Please feel free to comment, or send me email. I hope this site will grow, and I hope it will help someone other than just me. So jump on and let’s go for this ride together.
Steve

Greetings, I stumbled upon your site while researching the national debt. I’ve been racking my brain on ways to promote my site to get people involved in supporting the installation of Residential Wind Turbines. The premise is there are a lot of people that willing and wanting to something about Global Warming, and this is something that is painless and money well spent. Just wondering if you have any ideas and what has worked for you. Bobby
